Sackville Street was redeveloped in the 1740’s by Luke Gardiner.
The street was later extended by the Wide Streets Commissioners in the 1780s when Lower Sackville Street was created and Carlisle Bridge was constructed.
Over the following decades, the iconography embodied in its monuments continued to evolve parallel with the political and cultural context of the nineteenth-century city.
